February 2010. Portugal declared three days of national mourning to victims of the devastating floods and mudslides after torrential rains on the island of Madeira.
At least 600 people have been left homeless and the local government has confirmed the heavy rains have claimed over 40 lives.
These flash floods were the Portuguese island's worst disaster in living memory.
