In January 2010 an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 had its epicenter near Port au Prince, Haiti's capital, killing more than 200.000 people in 49 seconds.
At least 3 million Haitians were affected and 1 million left homeless in what was considered the greatest natural disaster in modern times. Many notable landmark buildings were significantly damaged or destroyed as a consequence of the quake.
